Resolutions, Dieting and the Future of Nutrition!

WOW, just WOW!

What an amazing week of listening to the Hay House ‘Start the New You now’ webinar. And what a treat to have good enough internet to be able to do so!!! We are now in the US Virgin Islands and using a 4G modem, which enabled me to listen to the whole week’s webinar onboard the boat – isn’t technology amazing!!!

I learnt so much and with the focus being on resolutions many of the conversations were about dieting, as this is just about the most common resolution that people make on January 1st each year. Often within the month, the diet has gone by the wayside and the resolution is broken…..

Why is this?

It is a well known fact that when most people lose weight, not only do they put it all back on after their diet, but more besides. Many of the conversations addressed this including Jon Gabriel, who created The Gabriel Method and is well known for losing over 100kg naturally without dieting, and Jessica Ortner of The Tapping Solution who uses EFT Tapping to help her clients lose weight and keep it off.

Interestingly I wasn’t going to listen to either of these discussions because I have lost over 10 kgs myself this past year, the first 5 I actually lost without dieting! Then I came across The Fast Diet and decided to incorporate the principles into my lifestyle, as it didn’t involve too much of a change, simply ‘fasting’ on 2 days a week. By doing so I lost the extra kilos so I didn’t think I needed to listen to either Jon Gabriel or Jessica Ortner, however I am glad I did, because both conversations cemented my belief in the power of the mind and of course that brings us back to the founder of Hay House herself, Louise Hay.

Back in 1976 when Louise Hay introduced positive affirmations through her little pamphlet ‘Heal Your Body’ people thought she was kooky (in her own words!), however that book was the start of something enormous for Louise, incredible healing for thousands of people all around the world and has led to Hay House being the finest and biggest publisher of self-empowerment books in the world.

But even more exciting is the latest research by Dr Mona Lisa Schultz (MD. PhD), which scientifically validates that affirmations do actually work! Dr Mona Lisa has teemed up with Louise Hay to produce a book called ‘All is Well: Heal Your Body with Medicine, Affirmations and Intuition’.

I will be sharing more from this wonderful webinar over the next few weeks, including more about how EFT Tapping has been helping some of the people affected by the Sandy Hook school shooting in December 2012 and also how Roz Savage managed her mindset when she became the first woman to row across the Atlantic!

However I am also excited to let you know about another upcoming webinar next week ‘The Future of Nutrition Conference‘, hosted by The Institute for the Psychology of Eating.

From January 27-31, 2014, this incredible event features compelling new insights and diverse approaches to what the future holds when it comes to nutrition and personal transformation.

P.S. Just a quick note – in my earlier blog post Making The Commitment I mentioned that blogging would be high on my agenda for January! Whilst I haven’t blogged as much as I intended, the reason is that the Hay House webinar took up a lot of my time, however this has only provided me with so much more exciting information to share with you in the coming weeks! Stay tuned

Making the Commitment!

One of the ways I am learning to stay on track with my resolutions, goals, commitments – call them what you will – is to follow the 30 Day Challenge concept.

Sometime last year I watched a wonderful TED video Matt Cutts talking about trying something new for 30 days. By the way check out the TED talks, if you haven’t already – there are so many amazing, inspirational videos & the beauty is that you can download most of them, which is perfect for me with my inconsistent internet access. Love it!!

I began my own 30 Day Challenge in July and read a selection of the ebooks I had downloaded from the internet, which had been stored on my computer for that ‘when I get around to it’ day! So it was time to get around to it & I managed to get through at least 4 of them. Yay!

In August I worked through a Travel Writing Course which I had purchased some time ago and once again I hadn’t yet completed! But now I have :)

Believe me, it does feel great to just commit and DO it!

In September I spent every day listening to some of the amazing interviews from the online Hay House World Summit that I had attended in June*. I didn’t have much time to listen at that time as I was back in UK visiting my mum for her birthday, so I decided to purchase the course for a later date. I’m SO glad I did, as those daily Hay House interviews through September were the perfect way to start my day! I also shared a number of them with a dear friend on another yacht who I had met earlier in the year in St. Croix and who was now anchored right by us in Grenada!

My October challenge went by the wayside when that dear friend and her partner were viciously attacked at anchor by some youths in one of the stunning Grenadine islands of St. Vincent, just north of Grenada. What I did learn in October however was just how incredible a woman’s spirit can be. After Tina’s attack, she rallied the yachting community and set up a forum (attended by close to 200 people) to discuss ways to improve our safety onboard.

In November I came across the NaNoWriMo challenge, which was to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days! Well, I did manage to spew out 50,000 words in the time frame, although I wouldn’t exactly call it a novel, but the point is that I DID it! One of my challenges this year will be to coordinate those words into a set of children’s books – stay tuned…. :)

In December I set myself a couple of challenges, one was the Planking challenge. I did follow the challenge, however I didn’t manage the full number of seconds once I got past the 2 minute mark, but rather than give up I just did the best I could (my best being 177 seconds!). My second December challenge was to work through a daily Tapping exercise to de-clutter my life – and more to the point, my mind! In case you haven’t come across EFT Tapping – I hadn’t until a year ago – it is a technique which uses acupressure points to improve your emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. Apart from producing phenomenal results for day-to-day issues, it has been used successfully by The Tapping Solution team to work with survivors and family of the Sandy Hook Primary School shootings in Newtown, Connecticut in December 2012 and also survivors of the Rwanda genocide, in Africa.

So, there you have it, my last 6 months of 30 Day Challenges and can you guess what my January 2014 challenge is? Yes, more blog posts – just DO it!
